Questions About the Event
The race adheres to the regular Coronado Bike laws. All riders under the age of 18 must have a bike helmet and for adults it is optional.
Won’t my bike sink into the sand?
At low tide, any wide tire bike will really fly on the damp sand! The start time coincides with a very low ocean tide. In most areas, the course will be 50’ to 100’ wide, although the best riding and running is usually at the water’s edge. Bike helmets are required for all cyclists under the age of 18. The organizers will follow the riders on the beach in a vehicle to provide assistance and first aid.
Will the salt and sand hurt my bike?
Not if you rinse your bike after the race. Your entry fee includes a fresh water rinse and a free chain lube.
Can I walk?
Yes, the finish line closes 2 1/2 hours after the race begins.
Since there is limited parking at Camp Surf, runners and walkers are encouraged to park at Sunset Park in Coronado and shuttle to the start. The race organizer will offer a free people shuttle before and after the race. The shuttle is unable to transport bikes. The first shuttle will depart from Sunset Park in Coronado at 6:15 am and the last shuttle at 7:15 am. Following the race, the shuttle will depart from Sunset Park as needed. There will be a secured area for temporary bike storage after the race.
